Invitations & consent

Pourover never pairs — or emails — anyone who hasn't said yes. Consent isn't a setting you can switch off; it's how the app is built. This page explains what your people see and what each answer means for you.

The invitation

The moment you add someone with an email address (by hand or by import), they get one email:

Subject: {Your name} would like to include you in coffee pairings

It explains the rhythm ("every week you are matched with a colleague for a short coffee chat, announced by email") and links to their personal confirmation page, where they choose Yes, include me or No thanks — leave me out.

Until they answer, they show as Invited on your roster: not paired, and sent nothing further. If the invitation seems lost, the roster row menu offers Resend invite email.

The three answers

No Declined Never paired, never emailed again — and the row is kept so a re-add or re-import can't re-invite them.

Each person's confirmation link is theirs forever, and every pairing announcement carries it in the footer as a personal "Stop receiving these emails" link. The same page lets them:

  • change their answer, either direction, at any time;
  • pick a slower personal pace — "at most every other week" or "at most every 4 weeks" — without leaving the roster (they can slow down, never speed up past your workspace schedule).

Changes made there apply immediately; you'll simply see the new status on your roster. Requests made through your opt-out form instead queue for your approval — the difference is that the confirmation link proves who they are, and the public form doesn't.

Changing someone's email resets their consent

Editing a person's address mints a fresh invitation to the new address, and they're out of the pairings until they accept again. A new address never inherits an old yes.

If your roster already opted in somewhere else (a signup sheet, an existing program you're migrating), the site admin can add people while skipping the confirmation emails. Regular organizers can't — by design.
